Tour Our Website

Have you ever wished you could explore a map of early Nemaha County, browse old newspapers, or discover what county records are available for Nemaha County, Kansas? Sharing this history is at the heart of the Nemaha County Historical Society’s mission, and their website offers links to a wide variety of resources that bring the county’s past to life.

To help visitors navigate this rich collection, the Society has created a short video overview. The narration was generated with Google NotebookLM, an artificial intelligence tool that transforms text into audio. (And yes, you’ll notice that AI still struggles to pronounce some Kansas county names correctly!)

While the audio overview emphasizes the need for a two-week notice from researchers, it doesn’t explain the reasoning behind that request. The Historical Society is staffed entirely by volunteers—there are no paid staff members. Our volunteers generally work on Tuesdays, which means that’s when email is checked and phone messages are returned.

The two-week window ensures that even if a message is missed one Tuesday, we still have time to locate and pull the requested materials before the researcher arrives. This advance notice helps us serve visitors more effectively while balancing the limited hours our volunteers are able to give.

We hope this overview makes it easier to discover everything the Nemaha County Historical Society website has to offer. Take a few minutes to watch the video and explore the links—it’s a great first step toward uncovering the people, places, and stories that shaped Nemaha County’s past.
