Nemaha County Historical Society!
The Nemaha County Historical Society museums will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday as part of the Duck Hunt, encouraging Oktoberfest visitors to explore local museums and downtown businesses. Discover German Heritage
Step inside the historic Jail, Sheriff’s Residence, and Annexes at 113 N. 6th Street to see special exhibits celebrating German heritage and highlighting Germany’s influence on inventions. Please enter through Annex 1, located near our faithful horse, Diamond.
Explore the Military Temple of Honor
At 33 N. 6th Street, the Military Temple of Honor has recently been updated with new exhibits. Visitors are invited to stop in and reflect on Nemaha County’s rich military history.
In preparation for America’s upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Michael Philbrick will share information about the Sons of the American Revolution and the local patriots who fought for independence.
Honor Our Veterans on Main Street
While on your Duck Hunt adventure, look up and notice the light poles along Main Street—each proudly displaying a military banner honoring Nemaha Countians who have served. These banners were purchased by family members. Watch for details around Memorial Day on how to enter the lottery to sponsor a banner.
Experience the Purple Heart Walk
This year, Main Street also features the Purple Heart Walk—a series of posters honoring the Nemaha County soldiers listed in the November 1946 Courier-Tribune who gave their lives in combat during World War II.
Each poster includes a QR code linking to stories and biographies of these brave individuals. Take a few moments to scan, read, and remember their sacrifices.
