1879 P. J. Pauly Bond

The Nemaha County Historical Society has a photocopy of the 1879 bond for the P. J. Pauly contract to build a jail in Nemaha County.

Bond

Whereas a proposition has this day
been made whereby Messr P. J. Pauly
& Bro of St. Louis, Mo., by C. L. Wundt
& CO., their authorized agents are to [in-
dulata] the erection and completion of
a Jail Building & Cells within and
for the county of Nemaha in the
state of Kansas, according to the
plans and specifications accompany
ing said proposition.
Now therefore, know all men by these
presents that we the aforesaid P.
J. Paul & Bro. as principals and
C. L. Wundt & Co., S. T. [Acres], E. C.
Blackman, J. Cullaton and R. R. Dorr
as sureties are held and firmly
bound unto the said Nemaha County
Kansas in the penal sum or Twenty
Thousand Dollars ($20,000.00) for the
payment of which will and truly
to be made we hereby bind ourselves
our heirs and assigns firmly by these
presents.

The condition of the above
obligation is such that in the event
that the contract for the erection of
the aforesaid Jail Building and Cells
in accordance with the plans and
specifications above referred to shall be
awarded to the said P. J. Pauly & Bro
in the times states in the proposition
herewith filed, the said P. J. Pauly & Bro

shall and will faithfully comply
with all the stipulation and con
ditions named and set forth in
said specifications and contract,
and erect and complete said
Jail Building & Cells in full com
pliance and accordance therewith
Then and in that case, this obliga
tion to be null and void, otherwise to
be and remain in full force and
virtue in law.

The undersigned, sureties for P. J. Pauly & Bro whose
names are signed to the foregoing Bond, being duly sworn, do severally depose and say as follows:
I, S. T. Acres do say that I am a resident of the State of Iowa,
and that I am worth the sum of Five Thousand Dollars
beyond the amount of my debts, and have property liable to execution in this State equal tot he sum
of Five Thousand Dollars.
I, E. C. Blackman do say that I am a resident of the State of Iowa,
and that I am worth the sum of Five Thousand Dollars,
beyond the amount of my debts, and have property liable to execution in this State equal to the sum
of Five Thousand Dollars
